Library

The idea to create the own library has become one of the Foundation’s most promising and interesting projects. It was assembled gradually from different sources of acquisition. These are gifts from authors and publishers, personal collections donated by the owners or purchased from them.

The library consists of two parts:

  • Rare Books are the books in Russian, Tatar, Ottoman Turkish, English, German, French and Arabic languages published between the 19th century and the early 1940s. They mostly include publications on Islamic studies, oriental studies, history, geography, philology and art. Access to these books must be authorized by the management of the Foundation.
  • The Mardjani Foundation Public Library. It contains domestic (Soviet and Russian) and foreign literature starting from the late 1940s up to the present. These are works on classic Islamic studies, Arabic studies, oriental studies, the history of Middle and Near East, Central Asia, source study, archaeology, philology, linguistics and other subjects. A selection of modern literature on the history of Tatars and the development of public and political thought in the Volga Region in the 19th - early 20th centuries is presented separately.

The Mardjani Foundation Public Library is located in the ‘Dar’ Cultural Centre of the Moscow Religious Board of Muslims. The library hosts scientific and educational lectures and book presentations.
