All our projects are one way or another aimed at enlightening the public.
Through the previous years included research activities, translation and publication of fundamental treatises of Muslim religious and political thought of the present and the past in the Arabic, Persian, Turkic, Caucasian and other languages; pivotal archive records and artefacts of the Muslim communities of Russia, the former Soviet Union, Middle and Near East and Europe. The Foundation has published several dozens of books, journals and booklets, hundreds of articles in Russian and foreign periodicals, held several international and all-Russian conferences, seminars and round tables visited by invited experts. In 2024, the Foundation entered into a cooperation agreement with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Our scientific projects will continue within the framework of these agreement.
In the first years was determined by the interests of the scientific program and was focused on the publication of scientific, popular science, cultural and educational literature. The Foundation has edited several series of scientific publications:
- Bibliotheca Islamica – medieval Muslim thought (philosophy, theology, mysticism, Islamic law), source studies, historiography, intellectual and political history of the Islamic world;
- Islam in Russia and Eurasia – history, traditional culture and modern life of Muslims on the territory of the former Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and modern Russia and the post-Soviet space;
- Islam and modernity – actual problems of the development of Muslim societies in the modern world.
In recent years we have focused on art books and albums. In addition to our exhibition catalogues, we publish art albums and monographs on contemporary and Muslim art, collections of papers, diaries and materials about artists. More details see in EDITIONS.
The Foundation also published several magazines.
Was published during 2008 – 2013. This is the first experience in Russia of an independent scientific edition devoted to the problems of the study of Islam, the history and culture of Muslim societies, the position of Islam and Muslims in the modern world https://islamology.in/journal/index
Follows the mission of the "Pax Islamica" journal. It was published in digital version from 2017 to 2022 and is included in the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences ERIH PLUS, the Russian Science Citation Index РИНЦ and other indexes. Since 2024, the journal has been published again in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Al-Maqam Foundation https://islamology.in/journal/index.
Was published during 2007 – 2015. An illustrated artistic and journalistic magazine that featured literary works by authors united by Islamic themes. More details see in EDITIONS.
Was published during 2011 – 2015. It is the first purely scientific journal dedicated to Eurasian military-historical issues from antiquity to the beginning of modern times. More details see in EDITIONS.
Three conferences were held: December 11-13, 2007 at the Russian State University for the Humanities, October 28-30, 2010 at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and October 22-24, 2014 at the M. Rudomino All Russia State Library for Foreign Literature (LFL), organized by the LFL, the State Museum of Oriental Art and the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Moscow together with the Mardjani Foundation. In total, there were about 500 presentations from researchers from Russia, CIS countries and non-CIS countries. The widest range of themes was discussed - from the emergence of Islam to the modern political and social situation, problems of history, state and law, society and economics, culture, relations between Muslim and non-Muslim countries and peoples, etc.
December 8, 2011 the Room of Islamic Studies of the Mardjani Foundation was established at the M. Rudomino All Russia State Library for Foreign Literature. In March 2016, it was renamed the Mardjani Foundation Centre for Islamic Studies and moved to the ‘Dar’ Cultural Centre of the Moscow Religious Board of Muslims. The Centre for Islamic Studies operates a public library of the Mardjani Foundation, as well as lectures, presentations of new books, meetings of the Golden Horde Research Society and much more.
Is the project for children and youth. They depict the history, everyday life and traditions of nations from Central Asia, Volga Region and Cisurals, Russian North, Siberia and Russian Far East. The books are illustrated by the best Russian artists. The books were added by audio disks with fairy tales performed by well-known Russian actors. As part of this project, the Foundation held several exhibitions of book illustrations and children's drawings. Details see in EDITIONS.
