The costume of the city nobility. The woman's attire consists of a damask or satin dress trimmed with fur and gold fringe, topped by a brocade kazakin fastened with a captyrma. A pearl-embroidered kalfak with a tassel, directed to the side, completes the ensemble. Shoes adorn the feet. The man's attire comprises a long satin shirt, short brocade doublet, and an upper garment – the gilan. Broad trousers are tucked into the ichigi. A skullcap with a pointed top and tassel completes the look.
The traditional clothing of the Tatars, as it developed in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, represents a unique and distinctive aspect of their material culture.
Based on materials collected through long-term observation, the artist L.L. Speranskaya graphically recreated the costume of Tatars in her artwork.
