"Born by the Winds of Absheron. Azerbaijani Artists of the 1960s–1980s" is a joint exhibition organized by the Erarta Museum, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the Mardjani Foundation. The exhibition features works by some of the most prominent Azerbaijani painters of the 20th century, including Togrul Narimanbekov and Geyur Yunus.
In addition to their works, the exhibition also presents paintings by other notable Azerbaijani artists such as Javad Mirjavadov, Tofiq Javadov, Ashraf Murad, Kamal Ahmed, and Rasim Babayev. These artists were part of a unique creative movement known as the "Absheron School," which flourished in Azerbaijani art during the 1960s and 80s. They were innovators and rebels who had a significant impact on modern Azerbaijani painting and shaped the direction of its development.
All these artists shared a deep love for their homeland, Absheron, and the unique nature and history of this region shaped their artistic vision. The Absheron theme is a constant in Azerbaijani art, and it is also deeply personal to each artist.
Absheron is a symbol of Azerbaijan and an endless source of inspiration for artists. The images and techniques of Azerbaijani folklore, folk art and decorative arts, as well as monumental murals and book miniatures and prehistoric monuments from Gobustan, have become an integral part of artists' work.
