The book is dedicated to the memory of Balkis Khalilovna Karmysheva, a Soviet and Russian ethnographer, orientalist, and Turkologist, who was one of the leading researchers of the ethnography and history of Central Asian peoples. She was a doctor of historical sciences and worked at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Tajik SSR from 1945 to 1956, the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1956 to 1990, and the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (1990–1992 - USSR Academy of Sciences, 1992–2000 - RAS).
