The monograph focuses on glazed ceramics from the historical and cultural region of Uzbekistan, formerly known as Shash (the Tashkent Oasis) in ancient times. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the development of this significant type of medieval art, and is accompanied by photographs of approximately 500 pieces presented in a catalogue format.
This book is the first one in terms of significant quantity and quality of the items described. The authors tried to classify and chronologically arrange Tashkent ceramics kept in museums and private collections, to describe specific traits of these fictile articles and provide beautiful illustrations thus making the reader see that what we say is true. The book is intended for archaeologists, historians, those studying medieval art and local history and all those interested in the history and applied arts of Central Asia.
