Sergey Parajanov is a prominent figure in the history of cinema, not only in Russia but also globally. His name stands alongside that of such notable artists as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Federico Fellini, and Michelangelo Antonioni. At the same time, Parajanov was more than just a director; he was a multi-faceted individual and creator of various artistic works.
Parajanov's unique contribution lies not only in the synthesis of his work but also in his multi-cultural approach. He has absorbed various cultures, making them an integral part of his own identity. He created Ukrainian, Armenian, and Georgian films, each of which has become a national treasure for these countries. He also succeeded in deeply understanding the essence of Muslim mentality, which is why his last completed film, "Ashik-Kerib", based on Mikhail Lermontov's work, became a significant event in Islamic culture.
Moreover, it is not just Parajanov's artistic creations that arouse universal interest but also his personality, character, and individuality, which resonated in everything he did. He transformed everything into art, including his own life.
The primary objective of the exhibition is to showcase the diverse and polyphonic artistic expression of Sergey Parajanov, a renaissance artist who defies conventions and transcends national boundaries. The exhibition features a range of visual materials, including illustrations, letters, script drafts, posters, and photographs. The majority of the photographs were taken by Yuri Mechitov, a close friend of Sergey Parajanov, who currently resides in Tbilisi.
