The book culture of Ottoman Turkey is inextricably linked with the evolution of urban cultural practices and the socio-cultural everyday activities of the urban population.
⦾ Which genres of literature and folklore, as well as themes and plotlines, were the most popular among readers?
⦾ Who was the target audience of the meddah storytellers in the Turkish city, and who were the consumers and purchasers of handwritten and published folk tales?
⦾ How has the traditional genre of Turkish urban folklore influenced the development of the emerging literary tradition in the Turkish novel?
Tatiana Alexandrovna Anikeeva, Candidate of Sciences in Philology, Head of the Center for Islamic Manuscripts at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS RAS), Senior Researcher at IOS RAS, Associate Professor at HSE University will discuss these topics in her lecture entitled "The World of the 19th-Century Turkish City (the urban culture of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, as reflected in oral and literary traditions)".
