«У каждого выходца из аула Кубачи есть такие тарелки. Их привозили наши предки, безудержно их коллекционировавшие. Мне кажется, для них это было чем-то вроде окна в другой мир. Какой-то искусственный рай между Китаем и Персией, который всякий раз открывался им после трапезы. Хотя, скорее всего, они из них не ели, а сразу вешали на стены и любовались ими».
Экспозиция представляет собой новую серию работ мастера: более 40 живописных работ на круглых холстах, а также графика, выполненная на бумажных тарелках.
The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Oriental Cultural Centre of the Institute of Oriental Studies, and the Mardjani Foundation invite you to the opening of Murad Khalilov's solo exhibition "In His Plate"!
Murad Khalilov was born in Makhachkala. His family originates from the village of Kubachi, famous for its master craftsmen. The inspiration for the exhibition came from Iranian plates that the artist remembers from his childhood.
"Every Kubachi native has plates like these. Our ancestors brought them back and collected them with great passion. I imagine for them, they were like a window into another world — an artificial paradise between China and Persia that would reveal itself after every meal. Though they probably didn't eat off them — they hung them straight on the walls and simply enjoyed looking at them".
The exhibition features a new series of the artist's work: more than 40 paintings on round canvases, along with graphic works on paper plates.
"As I painted these works, childhood memories would sometimes come back to me. It felt as if I had already seen these scenes and rhythms somewhere: birds and stars, empty landscapes, and a blue so vivid that Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin instantly comes to mind".
