Yulțan Sadykova's lecture as part of the series of events dedicated to Forugh Farrokhzad's book Second Birth.
Translator and researcher of Persian poetry Yulțan Sadykova will speak about Forugh Farrokhzad, the emergence of new Persian poetry in the 20th century, and how it developed in the following decades. We will discuss Forugh’s place in new Persian poetry, how poetic language, themes, and forms changed after her, and from which authors, movements, and traditions contemporary Iranian poetry is composed.
In the first part of the meeting, Yulțan will give a lecture, and then in a moderated conversation we will turn to individual poems and translations, talk about working with contemporary Persian text, and how Forugh’s poetry is read today.
Yulțan Sadykova — Orientalist-Iranist, Farsi translator, researcher of contemporary culture, and curator of independent theater in Iran.
