The Passion of Igor Savitsky

The Passion of Igor Savitsky

Igor Vitalievich Savitsky (1915-1984) is a legendary figure. As a young artist, he moved from Moscow to the deserts of Central Asia, where his passion for finding ancient treasures and his appreciation for the avant-garde led to the creation of one of the world's most unique art collections.
This film was released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. The filmmakers followed in Savitsky's footsteps, visiting Moscow, Tashkent, Nukus, different areas of Karakalpakstan where locals shared their memories of this remarkable man.
In addition to Savitsky himself, the film features the works of other artists he had "saved", including Nikolai Karakhan, Mikhail Kurzin, Alexander Nikolaev (Usto Mumin), Ural Tansykbaev, Reuven Mazel, Pavel Benkov, Victor Ufimtsev, Nadejda Borova, Vladimir Lysenko etc.
Savitsky's family members, as well as his successor Marinika Babanazarova, Alvina Shpade, who was Savitsky's colleague and companion, sculptor Zholdasbek Kuttymuratov, Irina Antonova, the president of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and others, recall and speak about the life of Savitsky and the artists whose works were part of his unique collection.
