This monograph is the result of the author's initial intention to publish letters written by talented Soviet artists, alumni of the Kazan Art School, K.K. Chebotarev (1892–1974) and A.G. Platunova (1896–1966), to their Kazan correspondents. However, there was a significant amount of material available, which, combined with documents from personal and state archives in the Republic of Tatarstan, allowed for the reconstruction of the lives and creative paths of these artists, and, through them, a comprehensive overview of the development of Soviet and Kazan art during the 1910s–1970s.
Rich illustrative material, including design features of rare books, magazines, posters, exhibition catalogs, and calendars from the 1920s and 1930s, helps the reader fully appreciate the unique atmosphere of that era.
