Rasim Babayev (1927-2007) is one of Azerbaijan's best-known painters. Many of his works depict fantastic characters - daevas and dragons, magical birds, caravans of painted camels, oriental beauties, naive old men and fairy grannies, the progenitors of the human race Adam and Eve. His characters, for the most part, have no individual characteristics; their portrayals are conventional. The beautiful and the ugly, with all their passions and fears, are generalised images, or rather the characters and emotions that live in each of us. This illustrated album presents the artist's oeuvre to its readers. The texts are given in two languages – Azerbaijani and English.
