Tatar Costume from the Collection of the Tatarstan Republic's State Museum

This album presents the collection of traditional Tatar clothing from the State Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan. Costume is the most vivid and distinctive marker of national identity, where the material merges seamlessly with the spiritual world of the past. The album features both individual items of clothing, which hold independent artistic value, and complete ensembles that most fully convey the style of Tatar costume. In some cases, the ensembles have been assembled from individual pieces that entered the Museum at different times and from different sources. The basis for their selection has always been scholarly attribution. By publishing ensembles of clothing in this album, accompanied by commentaries, pattern diagrams, and colour illustrations, the author hopes to expand the use of this rich heritage of the Tatar people, while also preserving the originals for future generations.
