The semantic translation of the Qur'an into Russian, made by a team of scholars to date, has been published in a new edition of commentaries on the holy book by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, an English scholar of Pakistani origin.
This fundamental work consists of two parts: a translation of the meaning of the Qur'anic verses (literal translation is not possible due to the ambiguity and metaphoric nature of the Qur'anic text) and an interpretation (or "tafsir") of the Koran.
The Muslim tradition is rich in various tafsirs, but the Medina Publishing House, who published this work, has focused on Abdullah Yusuf Ali's comments, first published in English in London in 1934. These are considered the most relevant to modern-day realities.
